Wireless data plans are relatively new to the cellular market. This page gives rates for various providers that offer wireless data services exclusive of airtime. Most providers also offer combination plans or add-on data services to voice plans.
To use wireless data services you need either a GSM GRPS or a CDMA 1XRTT (typically called '1X') enabled handset or PCMCIA card and you need to be within a GPRS or 1X service area. Speeds with either technology are similar to dial-up rates with a maximum transfer speed of about 56 Kbps. Rates shown below are for data services using packet-switching only. Note that this page is not meant to compare SMS and text messaging only services, which do not use GPRS or 1X services. Data services, when not combined with a voice plan, may also attract a monthly network access fee and a 9-1-1 monthly fee. Service providers may offer other monthly bandwidth plans that are not shown in the table below.
