Introduction
Zero Gravity is a reseller Microcell's PCS services. Like Cityfone and SimPro, Zero Gravity is not a new wireless network, but rather they sell services services using Microcell's GSM equipment (the same equipment that Fido uses). As such, there will be no differences in coverage and service quality, but there are differences in both equipment available and monthly service costs.
Zero Gravity is the first Canadian company to focus not primarily on cellular phones so that people can talk, but rather they sell both voice and wireless data airtime for people that want to take advantage of wireless services on their PDA, notebook computer, or any other device that requires wireless data via the GPRS network.
If you don't know what GPRS (or General Packet Radio Service) is, it is an always-on packet data service that can be used to surf the web, write email, or do anything else that you would normally do with a regular computer connected to a dial-up, cable, ADSL, T1, other other wired internet connection. GPRS is used exclusively by the GSM mobile phone network. Any GPRS-enabled device (phone, PDA, etc) can access the internet wirelessly at anytime you are within a GPRS coverage area. You are often charged for GPRS services on a per Kilobyte basis -- not on a per minute basis.
Handsets and PDA's At present, Zero Gravity is offering about 10 different wireless handsets on their network. These include the Sony Ericsson T68i, Handspring Treo 180, Handspring Treo 270, and the Samsung R225m.
